Urban Outdoor Adventure: Irvine

Irvine, CA

The weather has been beautiful, the days are longer, there are so many fun activities to do – but, still, we found ourselves in a rut.

We had gotten into the habit of going to the same trails, rock climbing spots, parks, etc, so thought we’d try and find something new to do this weekend.  So I was looking for something fun to do that
was relatively close to home, that wouldn’t take up the entire day.

Challenge #1: Urban Outdoor Adventure

We found a new place to go hiking that was only a short drive from home.  I found a great hiking blog that has tons of hikes in our local area.  Looked up a few places that I though might be possibilities, grabbed some water, the pup, and off we went.  Fortunately, I wrote down a couple that were quite near to each other because we found some to be a little bit too urban!  We were looking to do a little hiking and some of the ones we found were a little too similar to a walk in the park.  We ended up finding a great spot though that was probably only 20 minutes from the house, that was amazing.  Nice dirt trails, separate bike paths from the walking paths, and no horses!  No horses seems like an odd highlight you may think, but poor little pup pup goes nuts when ever he sees horses!  I’m sure had we gone on this hike earlier in the day we would’ve encountered some of these scary really big dogs!  There was tons of natives plants, lots of bunnies and lizards, and great scenery.  This was actually a trail that runs alongside an exclusive housing community in Irvine, California and is adjacent to a nature preserve.  I’m always surprised to find so much open space in southern California, but this was definitely a hidden gem.  We ran into very few people too which was a nice bonus.

We’re starting to feel like our old selves again – crankiness gone!  For pup pup, he was exhausted the rest of the evening.
