Agility!

Dog agility training

We’ve been interested in finding a group that we can have outdoor adventures with our pup.  We needed to find one that would allow our reactive pup to join, so it was a bit tougher to find a group to meet our needs.  We would have loved to join a group that met up for dinner with their pups, but Sebastian isn’t quite ready for that.  He likes to bark at other doggies a bit too much!  So when we found Active Dog Adventures, we were really excited.  It sounded perfect.

So on a warm Saturday afternoon, we loaded pup pup in the car and headed out to a Dog Agility class.  We met up at one of the local parks and got to work!  There were five other dogs there with their parents and we each kept ample room between us so that the dogs could get used to each other.  David, the group organizer, set up some jumps and tunnels and each dog took their turn.  Sebastian did fantastic – I was such a proud mom.  He jumped over the hurdles – three in a row – with no problems.  He was having a blast.

And when David pulled out the tunnel, I think I actually saw pup pup smile.  The tunnel, for those of you who aren’t familiar with dog agility, is a soft sided fabric hoop, that expands from just hula hoop size to a tunnel of about 10-15 feet.  You have the dog go in at one end and you run to the other end and call his name.  Sebastian washopping over the jumps and running through the tunnel in no time.  He had a blast!

One of the best parts was that our little fireball was exhausted for the rest of the evening.  What a wonderful afternoon!  We would’ve liked to had a chance to socialize a bit more with the other dog owners, but we’ll have to save that for another meetup.  A pack walk will have to be our next adventure!
