Enjoying Estonia

Estonia

After leaving the forest in Latvia we headed toward the coast in Estonia.  But on the way we needed to stop for a hike in the forests of Estonia.  Each hiking day our aim was around 10K and Sunny would plan the route and Todd would keep us on track with his GPS.  We had hopes of seeing wildlife. EstoniaMoose warning signs were frequently seen on the road, but our wildlife sightings consisted of frogs and a snake.  Oh well, it was still beautiful terrain and such a nice change from the desert.

After our hike the destination was the quaint town of Parnu.  Our hotel was just a few blocks from the water and maybe a 15 min. walk into the main downtown.  The beach was really nice and the sky was amazing!  The were supposed to be furry cows grazing by the water but we only saw regular ones.  The next destination was out on an island called Saaremaa island and this required a pretty big ferry, though smaller than the one we would later take to Helsinki.

At a town called Kuressaare we found the one of the most restored castles of the trip, though we didn’t get to see inside as the day we were there it was closed.

Largest Meteorite Crater In Estonia

Largest Meteorite Crater In Estonia :o(

A little bit of a disappointment though the largest meteorite crater in Estonian was a little bit of a bigger let down!

But the historic windmills we visited on our way off the island definitely exceeded our expectations.

In Tallinn we found some of the limitations of the RV on ancient cobbled streets! Sunny gave a valiant try and almost got us right to the door of our flat but the RV was just too big.  Tallinn was the most polished of the towns we visited which makes sense as it’s a cruise ship stop.  Still I quite liked it and thought the knight in shining armor roaming the old square was fun.  The castle, old city walls and cobble streets are quaint and classic old Europe.
