Our Trip to Rawdat Khoraim – KSA
Apparently this is the most densely vegetated area within 100km of Riyadh. We took a picnic lunch and headed out on a Saturday in January. The weather was very mild unlike the really cold days we’ve been having in Riyadh. There are multiple places to park and originally we chose the most obvious place just to the left of the road as you approach the park area. We thought following the other SUV’s was a good idea. This turned out to be a bit of a mistake as the area for hiking around was rather narrow, but proved to be very popular with the Saudi’s there for the afternoon. After exploring this narrow bit of the park we decided to try one of the dirt roads heading off in the direction of the rest of the park. Soon it was obvious that this was much more our speed as there were fewer parked cars and we were able to spend a few hours walking around and enjoying the quite peace of the park and our little picnic lunch under one of the large trees.
If you decide to take a trip out there and want to get access to a larger bit of the park like we did, you should turn off the paved road onto a dirt road on the right just before what looks like a little tent camp. It’s a very well used dirt road and obvious if you look for it.
On the day we went there was some haze/sand? in the air which didn’t do wonders for our photos. On a clear day the views of the sand dunes must be stunning! We would definitely go back.
