Beach Day

Dog time at the beach!

Dog time at the beach!

When the weather is nice we try and get out to the beach on Friday mornings. It’s Sebastian’s favorite day!  When the tide is low there are a ton of small crabs scurrying about and that triggers his prey instinct, which is hilarious and a little frustrating at times. The lizards here at the apartment have the same effect on him and he goes into super hunter mode.  While it’s rare for him to catch either a crab or lizard, occasionally he does and then looks at us with a rather quizzical face and we give him a reprimand and hope no lasting damage is done to the poor crab or now tail-less lizard.

Plenty of crabs to chase.

Plenty of crabs to chase.

The beach also has birds to chase and when the water is clear, minnows and fish to ponder.  On the very calm days there are bubbles to attack and, well, any other thing he sees is going to require investigation.

And birds to chase too!

And birds to chase too!

We had cobbled together a little floating platform for him as the water is way too deep for the little guy and he would be exhausted from all the swimming.  Also, he’s not a labrador and kind of yearns for the land and crab hunting once he gets too far out. So a floating platform is kind of a compromise, once we get into the deeper water, he has a nice safe perch for taking it all in.

The water here is so amazing.

The water here is so amazing.

As you can imagine, a baby pool float and Shani’s swim kickboard can get a bit unmanageable in the water with Sebastian.  He’s only 15lbs. but is quite a strong little guy! So this season we decided it was time for an upgrade.  You can see the results in the video below.  We thought it was a pretty successful!

Looks likes the new paddle boarder has almost, got it mastered! Nice job.

He seems to really like it! Love how you have the beach to yourselves.

Yes he loves beach day! Most of the time we end up with large swatches to ourselves which is really nice. The same has been true for the SUP trips, not many people out on the water.
