Trip to the Auto Museum – Abu Dhabi

Rainbow Sheikh Car Musuem

One of the first things we did when my parents came to visit us here in Abu Dhabi was a trip out to the Emirates National Auto Museum.  It’s a bit out of town and we figured it would be a good half day trip and my folks could nap in the car on the way out and back if the jet lag was really messing with them.

This very large collection of cars is owned by Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and is housed in a giant pyramid. Sheikh Hamad also owns the World’s largest caravan and it is on display at the site as well. He is nicknamed the Rainbow Sheikh for his collection of Mercedes sedans, each painted in a different color of the rainbow.  There is one for each day of the week!

The very first thing you see pulling into the museum is a massive Land Rover greeting you!  Along with all of the cool and unique cars and trucks and other vehicles that are included in this impressive collection is a giant Dodge Power Wagon.  This one is 8 times the size of a normal truck and has bedrooms and other living spaces.  It was not open for touring the day we went unfortunately.  I believe there is some BBC footage of a presenter getting a tour a few years back.

Our gallery below shows just a fraction of the cars so to see the rest you really should come to Abu Dhabi and have a look for yourself.  Make sure you go around back and have a look at the World’s largest Jeep as well!
