A Weekend in Fujairah

Fujairah Al Bathnah Fort

In the middle of March my parents came out for a visit to the U.A.E. and I went into full tour guide mode.  We had debated a trip back up to RAK as the hotel and beaches were just so incredible but we opted for a trip to the opposite side of U.A.E. and the town of Fujairah.  After fueling up at Shani’s favorite ADNOC and dropping Sebastian at his second home we were off to see a new part of the country!

Trip

One of the sights along the way was to be Bithnah Fort and even though we were travelling on Saturday we were going to drive by the famous Friday Market as well since they were both sort of on the way to Fujairah.

As we made our way across the country it was quite interesting to notice the change to the landscape as we started to gain elevation and leave the traditional desert behind.  There was plenty of activity at the Friday market but we only slowed down and didn’t stop.  At the fort we were fortunate enough to have a nice man unlock the doors and grant us access to the inside!

After the fort, we dropped down into Fujairah, promptly found the mall and had a quick late lunch.  The mall was quite nice and we always know that Shani can find something safe to eat and that it will be reasonably quick! As it was my parents second day in the country and they hadn’t seen much yet, I think it came a quite a surprise to see how the modern and past exist so easily side by side here.

At the resort it was a little surprising to see how different the sand was compared to the beaches in RAK and even how those are different from the Cornishe here in Abu Dhabi.  And then on our way home we traveled up the coast to have a look at Snoopy Island and the beaches there which were quite nice as well!  Our route back home had us up almost to the border and through Dibba and then onto a truck road through the sand dunes and back in the land of the camels!  It was a great weekend get away and we wished we would have had a few more days of it!
